
The California Academy of Sciences completed their 2011 Philippine Biodiversity Expedition and in doing so got to do something most every hobbyist would love to do, harvest some coral frags directly from the reef! For example the above screen shot shows a diver taking a small piece of a beautiful coral. Here is another photo of that same coral:

Although it should go with out saying, all of these corals were legally collected and exported from the Philippines to CAS. The frags that were taken will be grown out and eventually put on display as well as being used for in-house research and exchange with other zoos (maybe the Omaha Henry Doorly Zoo will get some).
