I know the chance of the babies maturing isn't likely, but I came home from running errands to see my clowns had laid eggs!! I've owned many aquariums and several clowns over the years but I've never experienced this before, so the kids and I thought it was pretty flippin' cool :P

I'll take some better shots later, here are some quickies from my phone…

I would have to have a separate breeder tank set up, right? Is there even a tiny chance a few might make it and grow in the tank?

  • It's about the system first, then the tank.

No they won't make it in ur display . All u need is a 10 gallon tank with a heater a simple light and a airstone. U will a need a roti fer culture witch I found was tougher to keep alive than raising the clowns but u get the hang of it real quick . For a rotifer culture all u need is a 5 gallon bucket and a airstone no heater required. U can order rotifer online for around 20 bucks and rotifer food with around the same price if u were serious about I could go into more detail. Ur gonna wanna wait till at least 3rd batch of eggs to harvest the clutch anyway they seem to get healthier and since u know there spawning u can feed them a little more to assure the fry are healthy. Now that there spawning they won't stop so it's not something you have to jump into

Thank you, maybe once my boys are back in school I'll have more time to put into a project such as this. I've been doing a little reading on raising the rotifers and doesn't look like an easy task in itself. How long do the hatchlings have a rotifer only diet? It would be fun to raise clown fish for sure and would be a fun "circle of life" lesson for my children. Clowns have always been my favorite fish to keep. I assume you probably sell or give away babies as they mature though, right? I've never had luck getting this pair of clowns to welcome new clowns.

Ya eventually u have to sell them I still have around 50 or 60 swimming around in a grow out tank with a bunch of anemone and it's kinda hard to get rid of them cause there so cool I haven't collected any clutches recently as I've been pretty busy and kinda waiting for my designer pairs to start laying when they start spawning I'll hope back into it

I'll keep them on rotifers about a month some keep them on longer but I haven't found a reason to also after around 2 weeks I'll introduce fresh hatched brine and keep them in on both for about a month then also introducing prepared foods and maybe a Month after that take Em off brine . And keep Em on frozen and pellets. Don't be to intimidated by raising rotifers the big thing is harvesting them everyday and feeding everyday the hardest part is finding out how much rotifers food to feed them as u don't want to over feed and u also don't want populations getting over crowded. I read a ton about cleaning the rotifers cultured everyday with I found was Un necessary I cleaned them maybe 1 a week sometimes 1 time every to weeks if I was lazy and never had a culture crash . I had a culture crash 1 time and it was be a use I was feeding to much and not harvesting enough

That has to look so cool to have 50 or 60 little babies all swimming around. How big is your grow tank?

ACK!! They are so cute!! I really want to try this…maybe this winter. Half of the clutch hatched last night, so sad to just see them disappear :(
