210 gallon display
300+ lbs live rock
40 gallon breeder sump
29 gallon refugium
Reef Octopus Skimmer
Marineland Reefcapable LEDs
Coralife T5 HO Quads

I've had this set up for about 3-4 months now, but I forgot to take pictures and post earlier on. I've been happy with it so far, but I've rushed it a little more than I really should have. All fish have been doing great and I just moved some soft corals in today from other other tanks. The only issue I have had was the nitrate levels. They rose to around 80ppm, but have been doing 40-50 gallon water changes twice a week to get it down. Some cyano issues in the sump but haven't made it's way to the display yet.

Current Levels:
Nitrate: 20ppm
Nitrite: 0ppm
Amonia: 0ppm
haven't tested anything else yet because of the nitrate levels being the biggest concern

Welcome! Are those Marineland LEDs only growing chaeto in the refugium? Smart use of them.

Right now I'm planning on it being a softie tank. At least until it gets more established.

Just an update of what has happened with this tank over the last 4 months. My nitrates shot up to about 50ppm and phosphates to 1.25ppm and the hair algae went crazy. I ended up taking most of the fish out to get everything under control. I moved the rock away from the corners of the tank and moved the powerheads around to get rid of some of the dead spots. I also switched to a different protein skimmer and have been running gfo.

Nitrates are now near zero and phosphates are reading at 0.00ppm on my hannah checker. A lot of the hair algae has been manually removed and only a few pathes of it are left on the rocks. Once I got the nitrates down, I slowly started adding more fish one at a time and everything is staying pretty steady. I want to stop running gfo soon because my chaeto has stopped growing, but I'm a little nervous that the hair algae will start back up again. I will probably wait another month or two.

I also changed the lighting, and I think the colors are much better now.

very nice. I agree the color adjustment to more blue has made many things look better.

Looking good. The key to nutrient control is lots of flow and no rock on the wall

  • It's about the system first, then the tank.

Nice looking tank! This photo certainly shows the appeal of a softy tank :) Glad things have come together nicely since your last update.

So... pretty much right after my last update, I decided to break down my 75gal tank, so I started moving the corals into the 210. I also moved some of the rock. I was a little afraid of moving so much so quickly but everything seems to be doing great.

Phosphates: 0.00
Nitrates: near zero (API/ out of Salifert)
Alkalinity: 8.3 dKH
Calcium: 430
Magnesium: 1440
