Official Thread of the 1000 gal Great Barrier Reef

So, it has been a very very long time since I last did an update on this build and posted some pics...these are not all of the pics but will post those when I have more time than I do at the moment so here it is.

In the first week of October I decided that instead of doing a Muriatic Acid bath I was going to do a Clorox Bleach bath....I used regular Clorox bleach with no addititves and soaked all live rock in a concentration of 1 gallon Clorox bleach to 10 gallons RO/DI, and cycled that water outside for 3 weeks.

I tried to make videos to attach but they were too large to attach. Hopefully can change that.
After the first soaking for three weeks I removed all of the rock from the Bleach/RO/DI water mix and rinsed thoroughly with a garden hose. Afterwards put back into the trash cans and put in fresh RO/DI water and added an entire container of PRIME to each trash can and then allowed to sit for another 3 weeks.

During each bath in RO/DI the rock was heated by a Deep Blue Heat Stik rated for a 110 gallon aquarium to keep the water temp at 80 degrees and had water movement via a Cobalt MJ1200 powerhead. When mixing the bleach with the RO/DI all safety apparel was used with a Respirator, Chemical Gloves, and Goggles purchased at Lowes. I strongly suggest this as the bleach smell is VERY STRONG and don't want to chance it.

Now on to the tank...In the previous update I mentioned that the tank has plywood installed and layers of Pond Armour put down and the smaller panel of glass siliconed into place. Well, its still sitting at this point and I do have pics that will be posted but to give people an idea of the size of this tank here you go.

That is my 4.5 year old son standing in the center of the tank. My son is 4' tall. The tank dimensions have changed a little but not much. The tank is 6' L x 4' wide x 40" deep. being somewhere around the 650 gallons when completely full. I originally wanted the tank to be 4' deep but had to adapt the depth slightly after ceiling height being shorter than planned required a change.

The equipment is on its way and will be delivered this week. For those who follow Bill Wann on facebook be just posted a pic of a 12 inch skimmer with a flow meter and probe holders installed on it along with some other goodies...that was my skimmer lol. The basement on that half of the basement has been completely reframed and electrical for the fish room will be run and plumbing will be run thanks to some industry friends ๐Ÿ˜‰ All outlets will be GFCI rated. So, this is the update for now and will be more proactive in the future about keeping up. Sorry, everyone for the delay

Awesome progress! Looking forward to seeing this monsterus setup!

IT IS A MONSTER!!! That is for sure. I feel like I'm building a house and not just a fish room lol. Lots more to go.

That is going to be sweet, can't wait to see it with water in it. Keep the updates coming.

Will definitely do that. It's a stand still right now with being so busy with work and other honey-do's...but I have everything that I need ready to go once it becomes time to do so outside a couple items. The anticipation is killing me

Well that escalated quickly!! Had some new powerheads arrive today along with a new fish net that is much needed to fit the fish I have and will be having.

The queen has arrived!!! Thank you so much to Scott and Shane at Nebraska Aquatic Supply for the over a year search for her. She has already been named "Beauty" because of her gorgeous markings. The male (Rudy), keeps trying to breed her already but sorry man she's still too small.
