All-in-one Tank for a Freshwater Whale

:whale:

Hi all. My house has been tankless for sometime now but it looks like that will be ending soon. My daughter has been bugging us for fish and we finally caved. I'm looking for an all-in-one freshwater tank (under 10 gallons) that she can reasonably take care of herself. Does anyone have experience with a Fluval Edge? They look cool but wondering if they are a PITA, especially for a seven year-old. What are some other decent "starter" tanks? Thanks, in advance.

A while back ago I was considering gutting one and making it a LPS display. When I was researching that, I didn't come across anything negative about their design for a simple FW tank, other than the ease of access by nature of the top. For your purposes of a simple freshwater display, I think that would be quite the nice tank :woohoo:

They are an easy AIO, but I might suggest the fluval spec v
I have not looked that close, but I think I remember the Spec V was easier to get to the filter area.

Cool, yeah I like the Spec V better. Like Phil said you can't access the water in the Edge without taking the top completely off. She'll be able to feed the fish better in the Spec V. Now just have to resist the urge to turn it into a reef...

Hey Ben, long time, no see. I always recommended Bettas for first timers and/or kids. Extremely forgiving, low cost/maintenance and still nice if you find a nice crown tail or other nice betta. Feeding/water change regiment basically the same as FW fish, and can make an easy transition if they don't (or do) get bored. Just my $.02.

Hey Jason! Yeah I lurk from time to time but haven't contributed much since I took my tank down. Hope all is well with you. Do you have a personal tank right now?

A Betta would be good for her but I'm afraid I'll get bored with it  Need to remember this is her tank, haha. She keeps talking about guppies but a Betta would be much better.

Haha. No, no personal tank. We just moved into our new house last summer, and I'm getting the itch, but haven't done it. I've been very happy not having a tank, and am afraid I'll get bored again with the hobby, and/or my work schedule will be too difficult to accomodate. But I'll probably do one in the near future anyway. Just need to decide on a size.
