600 Gallon Build

So....Maybe this is a little early to start a build thread but this tank is definitely going to happen and I will be purchasing the equipment slowly over the next 6 months. We are waiting to move until after our wedding in October so won't be ordering the tank for a little while- don't want to move it twice.

Looking at possibly:
130" x 36" x 30" = 607 gallons
130" x 48" x 30" = 810 gallons

The width will depend on the house we get and how much room there is. Will probably have it custom made by Miracles Aquariums.

Right now I am looking at protein skimmers. Was thinking about the Super Reef Octopus 8000 external cone skimmer. It has a 16" body and is around 38" tall.

It has begun :woohoo:

Looking forward to seeing this come together Trent. As passionate as you are I know this will be a great system! Good luck with it all, including finding the right house ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks Phil. I decided I should just get as big of a tank as I could possibly fit in the house, so I don't have to even think about upgrading later on.

I'm so jealous right now!

Trent,
I myself have been shopping for my upcoming build and the Super Reef 8000 External is the exact same protein skimmer I will be using. I have heard nothing but great reviews on it and actually had one installed in a home I designed over a year ago and from the home owners response it is bullet proof. If you go with the 800 gallon I will be very jealous. Cant wait to see this thread in progress.

One word: Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet.

Sounds like a great build - it would be interesting to have been searching for a house with a large tank in mind. Are you seeking a house for placement in a basement or on the main floor?

That is what I was hoping to hear. I know those Bubble Blaster pumps pull a lot of air and are very reliable. The other model I was looking at was the 9000 external that uses of two of those pumps, but I don't think I want to spend $3000 on a skimmer.

Was planning on it going in a basement. It will just depend on the house and how I can get things plumbed and supported.
