Macro algae

Going to start my 120 reef tank soon and I've been doing research on the different macros, I have owned chaeto before but that's it I'm looking to make my refugium (eshopps r-200) into a little macro world bk they just look awesome and if taken care of can be very beneficial!! Any advice or pictures would be very appreciated!

First, you have to ask if it's going to be display style or for nutrient export.

Some of the sweet looking ones suck at pulling stuff out.

For export the caulerpa are some of the best as they grow fast and bind up lots of things. Issue with it is they go sexual the fastest because of this.

Live-plants.com is a good source. But they do have some on there many would call bad so do your homework.

Want to find a happy medium of display and nitrate/ phosphate reducer.. Going to run my refugium light at night and display during day to counter other problems.. Looking to stay away from culerpa but not sure yet it seems like a good algae as long as you can keep it from going sexual

Interesting read. Maybe something you might consider, especially if you plan on keeping any tangs.

I would suggest Codium, red grape (botryocladia) and both gracilaria ( hayi and the common parvispora) the latter they normally name just gracilaria.
Gorgs are another good option that filter feed for bigger fuge

If you decide to go with some caulerpa, I would look at Caulerpa Fern Tree and Caulerpa Cupressoides. They aren't quite as aggressive as grape caulerpa and are nicer to look at.

I have been inspired. Added gracilaria to my fuge to go with the chaeto and the hayi already in there. ๐Ÿ™‚
