Salt water mixing stations

OK I have seen a lot about these and they look like they would be awesome to have...but could I get some people to dumb this setup down for me I'm just not finding how it all gets set up and what goes where thanks all

Ok so two tanks, one pump in between them; I switch pump intake with the union ball valves. I plumbed the SW to be able to recirculate but I also have a Koralia 1500 to help mixing. I added a T and a ball valve with a barb on the output/up pipe/SW recirc so I could attach hose and fill into the living room. I have a ball valve to stop flow into the SW tank so I can transfer RODI if I needed to. I also T'd off the bottom bulkheads so I could gravity fill buckets; I didn't plumb for totes though so filling is awkward. There are so many other ways to do it. It's all up to how much space you have and how creative you get , but I know your a pretty handy guy (way more than I am).

I used liquidtight cordgrips for the heater and Koralia through the top.

If you have the space for 2x4 stands and brutes, Id go for a vertical setup. If I would've went that route I could've saved ~$100 just on the Ace Rotomold tanks.

Sorry if I made it confusing. I feel like in this case pictures are worth more than words, if you google "saltwater mixing stations" there's a thread on RC that really helped me out.

If I could do it again: I'd want more space to do a vertical setup so to feed gravity the RODI(into the SW tank and into buckets/totes). Or I would've got tanks that have a more square shoulder, so the float valve won't stop filling before the tank is completely full.

Were you asking about automatic water changers? If so, sorry for the long winded reply.

OK thanks, I know one has ro/di and the other has salt water but how does the salt get in and mix with the rodi?

i do it manually, unscrew or pop off the lid of your favorite SW mixing container and add the salt in. :silly:

are you looking for something like a salt hopper/dispenser?

it'd be really slick if there was some controller that can "see" current salinity, current water volume and add RODI water and salt accordingly to hit a target salinity. i'm $ure its po$$ible, lol. one of the hurdles might be how to keep the salt moisture free and from clogging in the hopper

So barrel A holds ro/di water then goes to barrel B where you add salt and have a pump circulate to mix it?

You could do this with an Apex I think, though I wouldn't ever do it myself. Probes aren't always 100% reliable. For example, my conductivity probe showed a sudden drop in salinity overnight last night for no apparent reason. A quick shaking off of crud brought it back where it should be.

I'm all about automation, more so than some I've chatted with, but some things worry even me. ๐Ÿ˜†

I like automation as well, but not the price that goes with it most of the time..

To answer your question Billyjack, he has an exterior pump recirculate it and a Korellia circulation pump that he put inside as well for good measure.

This /. I'm extremely happy with biting the bullet on the apex. The things that you can do are amazing. With that being said, I'm for sure doing a ATO and am wanting to do a auto water change/mixing station.
