SPS Growing on Snail????

12

very cool. thanks for sharing. So this snail is suddenly upgraded to 20 bucks in value. πŸ™‚

Awesome!! Thats the Rolls-Royce of snail shells.....BALLER!!!

That is so awesome. Wow.

Yep sure looks like it. Astrea snails will come in sometimes with corals that brood, and the planulae settle on them. There is a snail in the garden eel tank at the zoo with Porites porites growing on it. It grows pretty well. Weird how that sunset got on there though, they aren't a brooder and no way it is a recruit from a spawn.

I was thinking it could be pocillopora potentially? Hard to tell at that size. That would make more sense as to randomly popping up somewhere.. Either way thats pretty cool.

Not to say there isn't one, but I've never seen an orange/green Pocillopora damicornis, which may be the only brooder in the genus. Corals can encrust very quickly, though -- forgot I had this pic, but an A. valida entombed this Astrea snail before he could get away. Maybe the snail was upside down or something long enough to get a polyp on it.

Hopefully it will keep growing so it will be easier to tell what it is, although I'm pretty sure it is an entrusting montipora. The sunset montipora I have partially fell behind a rock. I moved the rock and the next day the snail appeared. Maybe the snail got stuck or maybe just a coincidence.

Ive had damicornis pop up several times and it can look like that at first, but if theres a sunset monti in the tank then thats likely it.
